Fundraising for WaterAid
Tough Sh!t is a series of events setup and run by the international charity WaterAid to raise funds and awareness for our vital work to help the world's poorest people get life-saving loos and clean water.
Unlike a lot of events Tough Sh!t does not have a set fundraising target - so it’s really up to you to choose the amount and type of fundraising you would like to do.
Fundraising can take many forms - asking your family and friends for sponsorship, requesting matched funding from your employer, hosting pub quizzes or bake sales and many others.
Your welcome email from us will include a link to a fundraising pack, which is full of ideas to get you started and the Tough Sh!t team at WaterAid are always happy to give advice and support.
The quickest and easiest way to fundraise is by setting up an online JustGiving page – this allows you to share your page via social media (Facebook works best for this) or email with your friends, family and colleagues. They can then sponsor you through the JustGiving website with the money being transferred to WaterAid automatically. This saves you a lot of time and effort collecting sponsorship with pen, paper and cash.
(We will post JustGiving page links here for the 2018 events - these are pages that are preset with the event details so it saves you lots of time setting up your page and makes sure all the sponsorship goes to the correct place!)
How to send sponsorship in
If you've set up an online fundraising page, the money donated on-line should be transferred to WaterAid automatically.
However, if you've raised money off-line, please read the details below:
It is more efficient and cost effective for us to process sponsorship in batches, which saves us money that can instead be used to help some of the world's poorest people gain access to clean water and sanitation. We therefore ask that you collect as much sponsorship as possible before sending it in as a cheque or postal order to:

Please remember to include the following information when sending in your sponsorship:
- Your name
- The name of the event (e.g.‘Tough Sh!t South’)
- What the sponsorship is for (A quick explanation of what you did – i.e. pub quiz, bake sale, etc)
- Sponsor form with names & addresses of the sponsors and whether they would like to apply Gift Aid
We strongly recommend that you send your sponsorship via recorded delivery so that you can track and hopefully retrieve your envelope if it goes missing. Sponsorship does go missing in the post from time to time, and it's hugely disappointing for both runners and the charity, so recorded delivery is always worth the extra effort.
